Oral Pathology

Oral pathology is a branch of dentistry concerned with the scientific study of the causes and effects of oral disease & it’s correlation with oral biology in the light of histologic, physiologic & chemical alterations. An understanding of which, is essential for diagnosis and for the development of rational treatment and preventive programs.

Our department provides the basic knowledge of normal Oral Histology and its Histopathological form for improved understanding of the oral diseases to the undergraduates. Along with this, we have taken an initiative to introduce oral diagnosis beyond the text, since “seeing is believing”. Here students are encouraged to do full clinical, radiological, and histological follow up of the patients.

Our department activities include routine processing & staining of tissues (Biopsy specimens) and it’s reporting; with consideration from all members of the oral pathology team and many a times supplemented with special stains. Other routine procedures include exfoliative cytology with routine stains, cancer screening (using Toluidine blue) & Brush Biopsy.

We are successfully running a post graduation course, which includes ground sectioning, wax teeth carving, presenting seminars/ journal clubs, taking scientific short studies/ library dissertation/ thesis, improving clinical diagnostic skills, scientific discussions, presenting scientific papers/posters and attending national/ international conferences and conventions. Post graduates are motivated to have a deep understanding of the subject with logical and experiment based hypothesis in an ambient environment.

We aim at engaging into further research, bringing in newer techniques including immunohistochemistry & other advanced microscopy & histopathological procedures
