DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY & ENDODONTICS

“Increasing the life span of teeth by prevention and restoration” is the main motto of the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics. 

The specialty of Conservative Dentistry deals with prevention and treatment of disease and injuries of the teeth. Here, diseased or fractured teeth are restored with restorative materials that are biologically acceptable and esthetically pleasing. Whereas Endodontics deals with prevention and treatment of pulp and periradicular diseases and this specialty particularly strives to save an infected tooth and maintains its integrity in the dental arch. The main focus of this department is on restoring the dental health and mental wellbeing of the patient.

The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics has been functioning since the inception of this institution in the year 2002. Post graduate training programme was started in the department in the year 2009 with an intake of 2 P.G. students.

The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is situated in right and left wing of the college on the second floor. It is spread over 10,000 sq.feet with separate precinical section, undergraduate and postgraduate clinical sections. The department contains 40 electronic dental chairs, a separate surgical endodontic clinic, 2 sterilization rooms  and  RVG room. A fully equipped seminar hall with multimedia facility is available for conducting seminars. A small departmental library is adequately stocked with textbooks, which can be referred to by everybody. Computers, LCD Projector, Scanner and Printer include the facilities available.

It is a state of the art department, which is well equipped with the most modern equipment. The Department is equipped with Radio Visio Graphy (RVG), X-ray unit, Intra-Oral camera and surgical microscope. Various restorative, endodontic and recent advancements in treatment procedures are being done routinely. An array of latest restorative materials are available for clinical use.

The preclinical undergraduate section is equipped with simulators and phantom heads and students are trained on both extracted natural teeth and ivorine teeth. The Undergraduate clinic is well equipped  and students are well trained in decision making, planning treatment and its execution. Extreme importance is given to sterilization of instruments. Both undergraduates and postgraduates carry out meticulous maintenance of instruments and mandatorily sterilize instruments everyday and prior to every case.  The students are trained and guided at each step by highly qualified and dedicated faculty members. Teaching material consists of books, journals and online information.

Spread over three years, the master’s course aims not only to guide the student in the methodology of research, but at the same time orient him to the current state of knowledge in the specialty with its lacunae. The care of patients is an equally important goal and the post graduate student is given ample clinical exposure to hone his skills. Besides these, the academic schedule is designed to include seminars, journal club presentations, case presentations and a dissertation. They are also trained to take lectures for undergraduates.

The post graduates and the faculty members keep themselves updated through continuing education programmes and through an active participation at national conferences and conventions to maintain the high standards of teaching and the quality of care.
